OBJECTIVE
OBJECTIVE—
To create interfaces that are intuitive, modular and incite social change.
SIMPLICITY, CONSISTENCY AND MINIMALISM—
I enjoy working with highly collaborative teams of designers and programmers adding functionality to web sites. A quality product has the following qualities; accessible information, clean interfaces, bug-less site functionality and consistency in interaction.
RESEARCH AND PEER ANALYSIS—
My work experience has exposed me to a multitude of Content Management Systems ranging from Avid to WordPress. At the Ford Foundation I became familiar with all aspects of their custom CMS, including how to use it to re-template new sections. More recently, at Newsweek I conducted informal interviews with Producers and Editors regarding methods of streamlining the process of adding new media.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE & UI DESIGN—
While designing and building the 70+ page site for BBI Engineering, I became an advocate for a two level navigation rather than a drop down menu. This option gave the user an “at a glance” view of the company’s first and second tier landing pages as well as an understanding of the site’s hierarchy. I carefully considered their content and created two ways of spotlighting finished products with a prominent image scroll-bar and keyword links in the copy. The use of those interactive techniques allowed the viewer to navigate the site in three separate methods; top navigation, image links and copy links.
NOTES REGARDING USABILITY AND DESIGN—
Usability is a priority in all projects. Interactivity, should be invisible and intuitive. Like the environment, the web should evolve in an organic fashion. Interfaces should scale with client needs. The server statistics and web analytics present the designer with the numbers necessary to evaluate the current architecture’s accessibility.
